Brooklyn Cares

This blog used to be about Brooklyn, but then Emily Meehan moved from Clinton Hill to Bushwick. Now it's just random.

    9:00: work

    2:00: eat giant Toblerone bar

4:00: become convinced that life is just going to keep getting worse, tweet: “reaching your 30s alone and financially unstable in a city is like being a refugee in the same camp 20 years into conflict. you think it’s all going to resolve just because you’ve been waiting a long time, but then you’re just deeper into the conflict.”

5:45: leave work, wander the streets for a while looking for the pharmacy you have been going to for 5 months

    5:50: feel cold

6:00: take train to Union Square with the idea of going to the Strand to look at pictures of houses in Mexico, Africa, other hot places in design books

6:30: arrive at Strand. collect several books on folk art and Mexican design and Floridian architecture and sit down in a corner to look at pink walls, palm trees, and pools. take a catnap.

7:00: buy memoir of a drunk depressed aristocrat, and jelly beans

7:30: descend into the subway but take the wrong train, end up at office. jelly beans are delicious. decide won’t have to eat dinner now, it’s such a bother.

8:30: arrive at home. realize there are no clean clothes and the laundromat is open for another 20 minutes. decide not to go outside in the cold again and that there must be some random clean things deep in the closet for tomorrow.

8:45: play Vampire Weekend song that makes you feel cheered on repeat. write on friend’s Facebook wall to congratulate him on getting engaged. realize he got engaged a month ago and all other friends already commented.

9:00: talk on the phone for an hour, heat up some potatoes and wipe sauce with stale bread. advise friend not to let cabin fever get to him.

10:00: sit with cat at window and watch out the window to figure out what she’s so interested in around the garbage cans.

10:30: lay down and read memoir just purchased

    11:30: fall asleep
